“Echo Fiberglass Fly Rod Review” - I bought the 8'6" 4 weight Echo Glass "Big Water" rod and it is a excellent dry fly rod. The extra length and power makes casting dry flies easier at a distance while still being accurate and delicate at close range. The downlocking reel seat is a cool old school addition.

“Orvis Battenkill Fly Reel Review” - The Battenkill reel is an excellent click and pawl reel. It is small and lightweight which balances perfectly with lighter rods and has a great click sound on both outgoing and retrieval.

“Good addition” - These are a good addition to your boots, great for helping on certain surfaces like logs and rough rocks, but not so great on rivers with large smooth and slick rocks, you end up skating over them, try aluminum in that situation or a bit of both

“Pike rod!” - I have an 8'3" 10 weight that is loaded with a 400 grain Rio pike line. It handles huge flies very well. The short length of the rod and the heavy line to load it are a great combo for shorter casts to cover. (Probably a great stick for throwing at the mangroves in the salt, but I haven't tried that.)
Dale Martens - Rio Scandi Shooting HeadReview posted ago
“Nice casting...” - I have a Scandi Short that I use on a 4 weight switch rod and I love it for swinging soft hackles. I am pretty new to spey and I like the way it casts. It also gives a much softer delivery than a skagit head.

“Great on a switch rod!” - I have a 325 grain for a 4 weight switch rod and a 475 grain for a 7 weight switch rod. I am a novice when it comes to spey casting and these heads made it relatively easy to get half decent results quite quickly. (The Rio video on spey casting helps as well!) The 325 grain works great with Versa leaders but it seems to have trouble launching a 10' T-8 sink tip. Naturally, that just may be my inexperience talking... The 475 grain turns over the heavy sink tips without a hitch.
- Fishing in Utah in late March
I would like to combine some fishing with some skiing in late March. I know the Green River is a good place to go but are there any other decent options closer to SLC? Thanks for your time...

Dale Martens - Rio Tropical OutBound Short Fly LineReview posted ago
“Great for beach fishing! And baby tarpon!” - I used a #10 Tropical Outbound Short with an intermediate head while fishing for roosters with Baja Anglers off the beach on the East Cape. Great tool for the job. No need for a stripping bucket. I'm running all over the place with a bunch of shooting line behind me and it never tangled once. Keep the head outside the guides and let it fly after one back cast. The fly I had on was about 8...
Dale Martens - Rio InTouch Freshwater OutBound Short Fly LineReview posted ago
“Very versatile.” - I have a several Outbound Short lines in variety of sink rates and line weights. They are great for making quick casts out to your maximum distance. Just get the head outside the guides - it's only 30 feet long - and let it shoot. For pike and bass I like a 9 weight - the full intermediate for shallow weeds and the type 3 for deeper ones. I used a type 6 on a 6 weight for small water s...
