The Fishery
The pristine waters of the Pluma River and its tributaries are home to an abundance of not only golden dorado but also other coveted species like pacu and yatorana. With crystal-clear waters, diverse aquatic ecosystems, and a catch-and-release policy that ensures the sustainability of these remarkable fish, Tsimane Pluma Lodge provides an unparalleled angling experience where every cast presents the opportunity for thrilling encounters with these powerful, gold-flecked denizens of the jungle. Whether you're a seasoned angler seeking a trophy catch or a novice looking to hone your skills, this unique fishery promises an unforgettable adventure on the waters of the Bolivian Amazon.
The Tackle
The ideal setup is to carry two 8/9 rods, one rigged with a floating line and the other with a clear-tip intermediate line. It is recommended to bring one or two extra rods. The recommended fly line is Scientific Anglers Mastery Jungle Titan lines. For added strength and reliability in your tackle, using the Absolute Fluorocarbon shock leader and Absolute Predator 7x7 knottable wire, both from Scientific Anglers. The lodge provides a well-stocked fly shop, where you can access a wide range of fly lines, premium fluorocarbon, durable wire, and a variety of effective flies.
The Flies
Top choices include the Andino Deceiver, typically 4 to 8 inches long with 3/0 or 4/0 barbless hooks, in black with various colored tails. You'll also find Puglisi streamers in medium and large sizes, Lefty Deceivers, and the Sabalo Snake. We recommend avoiding flies with excessive flashabou. For surface action, we offer enticing options like foam poppers, Titanic Sliders, mice patterns, Dahlberg Divers, and Pole Dancers. Larger imitations of ground insects, such as the Chernobyl Ant, are ideal for pacú and yatorana. Our flies are carefully designed to provoke thrilling dorado strikes and enhance your Amazonian angling adventure.
