Calling the Sage Approach series rods "entry level" just doesn't do them justice. Utilizing a higher modulus graphite than any of our previous entry-level rods, the Approach has a medium-fast action that provides excellent line feel and control. Beginning casters can easily grow with this rod without ever feeling they've outgrown it.

Features:

  • Medium-fast action
  • Oyster Shell shaft color
  • Black primary thread wraps with silver trim wraps
  • Ceramic stripper guide
  • Hard chrome snake guides and tip top
  • Reverse half-wells grip on freshwater weights
  • All aluminum reel seat with full-wells grip and fighting butt for saltwater weights
  • Silver gray CORDURA rod tube
  • Backed by Sage's Lifetime Warranty

I really, really enjoy this fly rod. It was my first purchase from one of the big boys and I haven't looked back since. My 5 weight is great for pretty much all freshwater and I've gotten a ton of fun from it. I would recommend it to anyone looking for something in between entry level and professional quality.

This rod is my first Sage product and I am extremely happy with it. I put about 100 days on it fishing everything from dries, to nymphs and even articulated streamers with a weighted sink tip. I had zero issues fighting fish or casting anything I wanted. I have dropped it a few times admittedly while on the river and the rod has held up great. I would for purchase this rod again!

I've had my Sage Approach for just about a year and I'm still very happy with the product. I have a 9ft 5 wt and typically fish the Eagle River, the Colorado River and Gore Creek, which this rod does great on all these rivers. It is a great dry fly and nymphing rod.

Excellent for nymph fishing on the Eagle River. Matched mine with a Sage 2200 reel and 5wt line. Can't to try with dry flies in the summer.
