Alan Beltran

Fishwest Ambassador

Alan Rivas Beltran was born & raised in the small Yucatan fishing village of Xcalak (ish-ka-lok) and has always had an admiration for the water. The team at Fishwest first crossed paths with Alan on our first annual hosted trip in the area to fish for Bonefish, Permit, and Tarpon. At the time, Alan was working as an ecotourism guide in the nearby town of Mahahual. That day, he was invited by his uncle, a local guide in the area, to come experience flats fishing for the first time. That day changed the course of Alan's life forever, as he was then inspired to become a fly-fishing guide in his hometown. Soon after that chance encounter Alan quit his job and returned home to start his career as a fly fihing guide. Fast forward five years and Alan can now be found honing his skills as a member of the guide team at the renowned XFlats lodge. Even though Alan is the newest guide on staff, he is quickly gaining a loyal following of anglers from around the world not only for his fluent english skills, but his enthusiasm for hunting Permit.

The sky is the limit for Alan and the team at Fishwest has enjoyed being a part of his fly-fishing journey and we look forward to watching Alan grow for many years to come. When it is all said and done, we are confident that Alan will go down as one of the best guides that the town of Xcalak has ever seen. When not on the water, you can find Alan spending time with his wife Laura and two sons Alancito (little Alan) and Dante.
